Have you noticed how many secluded areas, including car parks, so easily become dumping grounds for discarded KFC and McDonald’s packaging?

It is a fact that, unless something is done to remove the eyesore, such spots become a natural habitat for further packaging and uneaten food.

If you’re like most of us, the clean-up operation has nothing to do with us.

After all, we did not eat the food and we pay our rates so it is down to the local authorities to sort things out.

This is not so with Alan and Valerie Pitt of Coggeshall.

They simply can’t bear seeing any litter lying around and voluntarily pick it up wherever they spot it, take it home and recycle it.

They are unpaid and their actions normally go unnoticed.

I commend their public-spiritedness. Incidentally, Alan is 80 years of age.
