A GRAND total of £3,000 has been donated to a charity which supports young adults with life-limiting conditions.

The J’s Hospice will benefit from the money which was raised by former Witham mayor Tom Pleasance during his year in office.

The cash was raised through a busy programme of fundraising including a sponsored town hall to town hall walk between Maldon and Witham, several quiz nights and a gala dinner held at Rivenhall Oaks Golf Club.

Mr Pleasance said: “It has been a pleasure raising money and awareness for The J’s Hospice.

“I have been enlightened to see the care that is provided and the services that are provided.

“I managed to visit one of their special Inspire days and meet patients and take part in some Bollywood dancing.

“It was great to see how much this group means to the patients and their families, and how it brings them all together.”

The donation will be spent on specialist nursing and emotional care, advice and social activities in the comfort of patients’ own homes and in the community.

J’s spokesman Marianna Alexandrou said: “£3,000 is a fantastic amount which will help us to continue the services that they really rely on so they can live life to the full, however short.”
