COUNCIL bosses are warning residents about a fresh council tax scam.

The appeal comes after a resident in Witham received a visit from scammers while at home.

The scammers said the resident was legible for a council tax refund.

A spokesman said: "This is a scam and no-one from Braintree District Council would be visiting customers in this manner. We would send a letter to the customer with a refund form.

"We would advise residents to call the non-emergency police number 101 if this happens.
