A man who launched an "unprovoked attack" on a cat has been jailed.
Danny Frost, 27, admitted to assaulting the animal when appearing at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on May 2.
Frost, of Panfield Lane, Braintree, had attacked the female cat, named Jasmine, on November 18 last year.
Court documents state he inflicted "blunt force trauma and physical violence" during the assault.
Magistrates sentenced Frost to 16 weeks behind bars for the attack, which was labelled "unprovoked" and of a "serious nature".
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and disqualified from owning or dealing with animals under Section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
