A REDUNDANT police station will be turned into a veterinary surgery.

Mercer and Hughes, which already runs practices in Stansted, Dunmow and Saffron Walden, has received planning permission to convert what was once Bocking Police Station, in Church Lane.

The premises will undergo a revamp to turn it into a vets practice on the ground floor, while the first floor will be turned into a single, one bedroom flat.

Currently, there are 18 parking spaces at the rear of the site but this will be reduced to 16, with 14 allocated to staff and visitors.

Bocking Police station, which has been completely closed for more than two years, has held several different roles for Essex Police, including a police house, communications centre and a roads policing base.

It is thought the new veterinary surgery has the potential to create up to eight jobs.
