A HARDY duo are preparing to climb four mountains in just three days to raise cash to help pay for treatment for a youngster with cerebral palsy.

Guy Power, 40, and Marcus Taylor, 42, are hoping to raise £1,500 for Witham's Aiden Mitchell by taking on a daunting four peaks challenge next month.

It will see them climb to the peaks of the four highest mountains in the Lake District - Skafell Pike, Skafell, Helvellyn and Skiddaw - from May 13 to May 15.

Skafell Pike is the tallest of the four at a frightening 978 metres while Skiddaw is the shortest at a slightly less terrifying 931 metres.

They're taking them on to raise cash for four-year-old Aiden who was left with cerebral palsy after birth complications meant he did not take a breath for 28 minutes.

The youngster travels to America for various therapies which help with the condition but the cost of the treatment and equipment runs into thousands of pounds.

Marcus is Aiden's godfather and asked his friend Guy what they could do to try and raise some cash to help with the treatment.

Guy, a children's entertainer from Witham who has previous climbing experience, said: "I think the thing we're looking forward to most is the challenge of it, but I don't think it will be until we sit down afterwards that we realise what exactly it is that we've managed to achieve.

"I'm quite fit because I'm tearing round at children's events all the time but we've been in the gym making sure we're ready for it.

"Marcus said to me that we may be climbing these mountains but Aiden has to climb his own mountains everyday so that's what will be spurring us on."

The pair say they aren't underestimating the impact of the climbs on their legs and will have done three months of preparation by the time May 13 roles around.

Meanwhile, Guy has been hard at work planning routes for them to tackle and they are hoping the weather will be nice enough for them to take on the notorious Striding Edge route on Helvellyn.

Marcus said: "I've never even been anywhere near a mountain in my whole life, let alone climbed one, so for me it's going to be quite a challenge.

"I think we're looking forward to the experience of it all and trying something new, it'll certainly be a challenge."
