A BRAND new exhibit all about 'Braintree's most historic street' is set to installed at a museum.

The Bradford Street History Wall is expected to go on show at Braintree Museum this summer after being designed by the Friends of Bradford Strep group.

The street has a history of trade, architecture and various professions according to experts who also say 'it has been a vital artery for the town since Roman times.'

The ten-metre long wall itself has a map of the street full of information about its most historic houses and a timeline dating back 2,000 years.

A large touch-screen screen on a side panel shows videos, presentations and photos.

Funding to begin the project was provided by grants given by Braintree councillors' from their community scheme money.

Chairman Peter Bayley said: "We hope this will encourage Braintree residents and others to visit our historic street and to help us to preserve it for future generations.

"The Bradford Street History Wall gives a fascinating insight into local history for local residents and all other visitors to Braintree District Museum.

"It’s good to see our local councillors showing that they share our pride in Bradford Street and the local heritage that it represents.

"We are very grateful for their generous financial support. The museum trust and management team have been enthusiastic supporters of the project and our sincere thanks also goes to them."
