PLANS which could dozens of new homes built in a village are set to be discussed in a crucial meeting.

Braintree Council’s planning committee will decide on an application which if approved, will give the green light to build 33 new homes in Church Road, Great Yeldham.

Officers have recommended the plans, which include a mix of bungalows and anything between one and five bedroom houses, be approved because of the social and economic benefits they will bring.

Great Yeldham Parish Council has remained ‘neutral’ on the scheme, however several residents have objected to the blueprints with key concerns centring on an invasion of privacy and highway matters.

Questions have also been asked whether there is a ‘genuine need’ for new housing as plans to build 60 homes elsewhere in the village at the Hunnable Industrial Estate have already been approved.

Developer Countryside Properties took on the proposals after a previous application to build 29 homes off Church Road was withdrawn by Knight Developments and Gray.

It has offered to create a new park and transfer an area of land known as Bowtells Meadow to the parish council.

The meeting where the plans will be discussed takes place at Causeway House, Braintree, at 7.15pm on Tuesday.
