A CHARITY is working to combat the rate of falls by providing non-slip footwear.

Community360 is holding a slipper exchange and winter resilience show at Pump House Surgery in Earls Colne.

The event takes place on Thursday between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Residents at risk of falling or who have a history of falling are given free non-slip slippers.

Residents are invited to turn up with their old slippers and exchange them for new ones.

For a number of people, ill fitting slippers can contribute to falls in the home which can sometimes be life changing for an older person.

By changing slippers to an appropriate style, the risk of falling can be reduced.

Other slipper exchange schemes across the country have seen a 60 per cent drop in falls by people who are identified as at-risk.

Community360 will also be offering winter resilience bags containing a torch, vacuum flask, gloves, throw, hat, scarf and food items to anybody who could struggle in the wintry weather.
