PUPILS had the chance quiz their MP during a trip to parliament.

Year six pupils from St Andrews School in Halstead got the chance to explore the Houses of Parliament and the Churchill War Rooms on January 10.

Whilst at Parliament, the children were able to tour both houses as well as get a look into some of the debates.

The class then attended a workshop on voting, preparing them for their future, as well as meeting Braintree MP, James Cleverly.

Mrs Ruth Ship, assistant headteacher, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and even had the opportunity to raise local issues with their MP including cycle lanes and heavy traffic in the area.

“We were really grateful that Mr Cleverly was able to take time out of his busy schedule to meet the children.”

The visit was part of a “50 things to experience as a primary school pupil” initiative at St Andrews School and was part of a mini topic on democracy.

Mrs Ship added: “We hope it enables pupils to understand that they have a voice.”
