Forecasters have warned drivers to expect icy conditions this evening and tomorrow morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice.

It covers the East of England and other parts of the UK and is in force from 4pm today until 11am on Wednesday.

The warning said: “Ice will form in places later on Tuesday afternoon and overnight into Wednesday, especially where wintry showers leave surfaces wet.

“Further hail, sleet and snow showers are also likely at times. Accumulations of several centimetres are likely above 200 metres, mainly across western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and northwest England.

“A small amount of settling snow (1 cm or less) is also possible at lower levels in a few places.”

The Met Office warned people to expect ice on pavements and roads.

The temperature in Essex is expected to fall to -1° tonight and is expected to feel like -5° for much of tomorrow morning.
