TASTER sessions will be held this month for residents who want to find out more about becoming a fire-fighter.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will hold four open events which will include advice and the chance to try out some physical tests needed during recruitment and training.

A spokesman said: "Whether you’re interested in applying to one of our on-call fire stations, or think you might apply to become a whole-time firefighter when recruitment begins in spring 2019, here’s your chance to find out more about the role of a modern day firefighter.

"No two days are the same when you’re a firefighter. Our role has developed and so has our place in the community.

"Firefighting isn’t just about fighting fires.

"As well as the varied incidents you could attend, such as road traffic collisions and floods, you are just as likely to be carrying out a home safety visit, talking to the community about fire safety or working with our partners to support a campaign."

Firefighters and fitness advisors will be on hand to offer advice and support on the day.

All four will take place at Witham Fire Station, in Hatfield Road, between January 19 and January 26.

A women only event will kick them off on Saturday, January 19 from 11.30am until 1.30pm with three mixed gender tasters to follow.
