Your edition of November 22 reports that Witham MP Priti Patel feels a “bitter sense of betrayal” over the UK’s negotiations to leave the EU.
She is not the only one. What I resent is that, in a few months’ time, many of the rights and privileges which we have as ordinary EU citizens are going to be snatched away as a result of a mendacious campaign run by millionaires such as Gove, Johnson and Farage.
The Prime Minister asks us to consider next March 29 as a “moment of renewal and reconciliation for our whole country”.
For me, and millions of others, it will be a day of mourning.
Membership of the EU has been a cause of division in the Tory party for 40 years.
I hope and pray that it does not become a source of division for the whole country over the next 40.
David Martin, Bridge Street, Witham
