I see Essex County Council is considering the possible closure of 25 libraries in order to save a paltry £2 million.

In other news, Essex, Colchester, Braintree and Tendring councils want to hand £400,000 to North Essex Garden Communities Limited to fritter away on unnecessary public relations consultants and staff whose roles are unnecessary, unless and until the councils put together robust sustainability appraisals and plans that will satisfy the Planning Inspector.

Surely I’m not alone in thinking it’s better to look after the libraries – valuable infrastructure that we do have – rather than frittering away cash on grandiose schemes that we don’t want to have?
