A NOTLEY man plays a starring role in a film which will be released later this week to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Jon Woodrow, of Great Notley, plays the father-in-law of the leading character in a war drama which will have its world premiere in London this weekend.

He was also third assistant director for the film, Eleven, which will have its premiere at Picturehouse Central in Piccadilly Circus this Saturday at 11am.

Mr Woodrow plays the part of a man called Ted Hayes in the moving film - the father-in-law of the film's leading player Sergeant Archibald Jones.

It's a part which sees him comforting his daughter and granddaughter at home while his son-in-law is away fighting on the fronts.

Mr Woodrow said: "It was decided to have the premiere on the Saturday and not the Sunday because we didn't to detract from the commemorations which will take place on the Sunday.

"A lot of the film was shot January in Suffolk where filming for Downton Abbey also took place and then at a Victorian village in Shropshire.

"My role as the father-in-law sees me looking after his wife and daughter while my son-in-law is away."

The film focuses on the final minutes before the end of the Great War when an order comes through for the men of the King's Regiment to go over the top one last time.

A badly wounded Sergeant Jones and his comrades step into the carnage of no man's land as 11am and the armistice approach.

Jones is left clinging to life before he is offered some help from an unexpected source.

On Remembrance Day, the day following the premiere, Mr Woodrow will be at the White Court memorial in Notley to recite The Soldier by Rupert Brooke.
