CASH has made available for a new community hall and cafe after developers got the go-ahead to build new homes.

Funding for the site has come from a development in the Maltings Lane area of Witham.

Braintree Council has been in talks with the town council and community groups to see what is needed in the town.

Proposals include a two halls for sports, performances, community events, meetings, children’s activities and music, meeting rooms, a cafe and changing rooms for the outdoor football pitch.

The community centre would be built behind Aldi, in Gershwin Boulevard.

The council now wants to hear the community’s views about what other facilities they would like.

Two public consultations will be held at the leisure centre in Spinks Lane on Tuesday, November 13, from 6pm to 9pm and Thursday, November 15, from 3pm to 6pm.

Braintree Council communities boss Peter Tattersley said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the people of Witham to have their say on what the building could best be used for.”

Anyone unable to attend the consultations can email robinthompson@rptconsulting.co.uk or completing a survey at braintree.gov.uk/wcf.

The consultation closes on November 26 at 5pm.
