Two people were arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life after a fire at a sheltered accommodation complex.

Police say they are investigating after the fire took hold in the communal living area of the complex for the elderly in Witham.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We are investigating following a fire at an address in Guithavon Street, Witham, shortly after 11pm on Monday, October 8. No-one was hurt.

"A 58-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, both from Witham, were arrested on Tuesday, October 9 on suspicion of arson endangering life. "

Both of them have been released on bail until November 5 pending further enquiries.
