TWO scouts are holding a Santa fun run in a bid to secure £7,600 in funding and a spot at a global jamboree next summer.

Jamie Horobin and Josh Christie, both 16, are organising the five kilometre event for Great Notley Country Park in December.

The duo need to raise £3,800 each in order to make sure they can attend the scouting event which takes place in West Virginia next year.

Fiona Horobin, Jamie's mother, said: "We're very proud of them, they're going to be representing Braintree and the district.

"They're both keen runners so when it came to thinking of ideas for what to do they were more drawn to this rather than things like cake sales.

"We've been giving them some helping organising it but they wanted to do something to include the whole community."

The friends are members of the Rayne Rebels explorer unit and, on top of the run, have been making and selling paracord keyrings and sweet cones.

Jamie and Josh have also organised skyropes sessions for cubs and scouts and are also set to host a quiz night.

The run will take place at the Notley Discovery Centre on Saturday, December 8, from 11am, but in order to guarantee a Santa suit, places need to be booked by October 31.
