AROUND 100 former students and staff returned to the building which was once home to their school for the launch of a new book.

Braintree Museum, which was Manor Street School until 1990, hosted the visitors for the launch of a book about the school which opened in 1862.

Alistair Saunders, the grandson of the schools first headteacher John, also went along to celebrate the book which has been written by another former headteacher Anne Wilkinson.

A short presentation took place showing historic images from the school before a book signing was held in the Victorian classroom at the museum.

Polly Redman, from the museum, said: "It is really great to now have a book about the school and the building.

"The building is such an iconic site in the town with many locals having gone to school here.

"Also having the great grandson of the first head teacher come to the launch was a wonderful experience and really made it all come full circle."

The book is exclusively available at the museum shop for £18.
