Love, gore and fertiliser will collide when the classic comedy musical Little Shop of Horrors comes to Great Dunmow later this month.

Based on the 1960s film by Roger Corman, the show will tell the story of a florist shop assistant called Seymour who discovers his favourite plant, a Venus fly-trap, comes with a difference.

He soon names the plant Audrey Two, in honour of his loveable and ditsy shop colleague Audrey who he is secretly in love with, but little does he know ‘Twooey’ has big plans.

Eventually the fly-trap grows into a foul-mouthed carnivorous beast with a bad-temper which offers him fame and fortune in return for blood.

The hit horror-comedy will be performed by the Dunmow Players and will be raising cash for Isabel Hospice throughout the week.

Jess Daniel, who will play Audrey, said: “It’s a charity close to all members hearts as they have helped a cast member through a difficult time and we hope to raise as much as possible for them.”

The Players are hoping the show will be as big of a hit as last year’s award winning Priscilla, Queen of the Desert which was their fastest-selling show of all time.

The Little Shop of Horrors will run at Foakes Hall in Stortford Road, Great Dunmow, from Tuesday, October 23, until Saturday, October 27.

Every show across the six nights will begin at 7.30pm, and due to previous successes, a matinee performance will also take place on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

A standard ticket for the event will cost £17.50 while concessions for children are also available.

Due to the fairly gruesome content, the show is recommended for those who are 12-years-old and older.
