SPEEDING surveys look set to be carried out in another four roads in Witham amid concerns over safety from residents.

Town councillors gave their backing for surveys to take place in Rickstones Road, Forest Road, Laurence Avenue and Gershwin Boulevard at a meeting on Monday.

It comes after a speeding survey for Allectus Way, where residents have seen pets killed, was approved last month.

Ward county councillors will have the final say on whether the speed surveys go ahead or not.

JoAnn Williams, town councillor, said: "We were told that it's a case of how long is a piece of string as to when the surveys actually happen - it takes time to get things moving.

"After the surveys it will be a case of looking at the different methods of traffic calming and which ones people would be happy with.

"Speed bumps make a noise and residents don't want to have to drive over them all the time.

"Cars parked on the road slow other cars down, but then people don't want to leave their cars on the road."

Braintree District Local Highways will carry out the surveys and report back its findings to the committee.
