A POLICE dog handler raised more than £1,000 by walking roughly 62 miles for a cancer charity.

PC Hayley Peek, who is based at Stansted Airport, walked from Eastbourne in East Sussex to Arundel in West Sussex, to raise the cash for Macmillan.

It's a charity which is close to her heart after she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma two years ago.

PC Peek said: "Although I have been given the all clear now, Macmillan were fantastic when I was undergoing my treatment."

"They were there for me throughout and were brilliant with my granddad as well."

She completed the challenge in two days walking from Eastbourne to Hove on day one and then from Hove to Arundel on day two.

She said: "It took a lot out of me and I still have the odd blister but it was a great feeling crossing that finish line and I'm really pleased to have finished."

PC Peek works with Police Dog Holly at Stansted but wasn't worried about leaving her at home.

She said: "She stayed with her best pal, Police Dog Buddy, of course.

"The two are inseparable at the best of times so it was nice to know she was having lots of fun whilst I was away."
