YOUNGSTERS are hoping letters and drawings they have sent to a town council will help them in their bid for brand new play equipment.

Children living in Ebenezer Close sent letters to Witham Town Council last month asking for a new play area to be built on a green which is surrounded by their homes.

The notes included pictures drawn by the children showing what they would like a possible new play area to look like.

Their plans include swings, a slide and, ambitiously, what appears to be a castle.

The first of the three letters read: 'Dear Witham Town Council. The children of Ebenezer Close would like to have some play equipment on the green.

'It doesn't have to be much maybe a swing set and slide and some football goals.

'Thank you for reading our letter and we hope to see what you could do for us.

'Many thanks the children of Ebenezer Close.'

Another letter which was sent in said: 'We children were thinking if we can have a play equipment and park also monkeys bars and a football pitch at Ebenezer Close.'

Councillors discussed the letters at a full town council meeting on Monday evening.

JoAnn Williams, town councillor, said: "It was absolutely lovely to see the three letters, I especially enjoyed looking at the pictures they'd drawn, I thought they were fantastic.

"We certainly want to try and help them out but we need to do some due diligence and see how many children actually live there to make sure it would go to use.

"There was play equipment just around the corner before but it was taken out because it had rusted away and wasn't being used.

"There's also likely to be some older residents who live there who may not be too happy with the idea, so we'll have to look into the background of it but we do want to help them."
