WORK to strengthen a bridge means a main road will be shut on Friday and won't re-open until Monday.
Colchester Road, in Witham, will be closed to all traffic from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.
It will be shut to traffic between Avenue Road and Crittall Road so new foundations can be installed at Catholic Bridge.
A temporary pedestrian crossing has been in place for several weeks as work to the bridge takes place.
It is a popular road for drivers leaving the centre of Witham and joining the A12 northbound.
A diversion along Freebournes Road, Pasture Road, and The Grove will be in place.
Visit www.essex.gov.uk/highways and search Catholic Bridge for more information.
