Transport police are hunting a man who officers believe jumped onto a railway line and dragged railway equipment onto the tracks.
Before going onto the line, the man was in a waiting room at Braintree Freeport station when he began to punch windows and walls, before tearing a bin off a wall.
Soon after, he went onto the tracks and began walking towards Cressing and placed equipment on the line causing delays to services.
The incident happened just before 7am on Sunday and British Transport Police would like to speak to the man in the CCTV image.
A spokesman for Freeport shopping village said: "We are aware of an incident and would urge anyone with information to contact British Transport Police."
