A nine-year-old girl who grew her hair for six years in order to donate it to children going through cancer raised nearly £200 for charity at the same time.

Cressing Primary School pupil Kyra Chaplin has 39cm off the length of her hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust.

Kind-hearted Kyra wanted to do something after watching a Children in Need documentary on television.

Mum Sarah Doyle said: "We are extremely proud of her for going through with having her hair cut and donated, and also for raising so much money for the charity."

As well as donating the huge amount of hair, which she had been growing for six years, Kyra also managed to collect £172 in donations.

Kyra had her hair cut at Yaxley Hair and Beauty, in the Newland Shopping Centre, Witham, who kindly donated staff time to help out.
