A innovative cafe where experts will repair electrical and mechanical items free of charge will serve the community at a church in Black Notley.

Cornerstone Church, in Witham Road, is opening its very own repair cafe, which will take place on the third Saturday of the month.

There are no charges for using the service, however donations for materials are always welcome.

Matt Ager, church leader at Cornerstone Church, said: "We have become a throwaway society in the UK, often discarding things which just need a bit of TLC to get back to working order.

"So we want to do our bit in changing the mindset of those heading to the tip at the weekend.

"We often have seamstresses, clock repairers, electricians and mechanics volunteer at the repair café and the word is starting to spread in the community that we’re keen to help reduce landfill by breathing some life into our tired goods.

"But above all, repair café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is."

People are encouraged to help with the fixing of items at the cafe, so they can learn new skills.

Chairs, drinks, cakes and other refreshments are also on offer, along with activities to keep the kids busy.

The cafe takes place between 10am and noon on the third Saturday of every month until the end of 2018.
