A brave nine-year-old from Witham is set to donate her hair to help children going through cancer.

Kyra Chaplin will have at least 39cm cut off to donate to the Little Princess Trust.

Cressing Primary School pupil Kyra first started growing her locks aged three after seeing a documentary about a little girl who lost her hair due to cancer on Children in Need.

"On the program there were children who were very poorly with cancer and they lost their hair because they were so poorly," she said.

"That was when I wanted to grow my hair so I can give some away.

"I would also like to help raise a little bit of money that they can use to go towards buying another wig for another child because they can’t always make enough for everyone."

She hasn't had a proper hair cut in almost six years, just having the ends trimmed in preparation for the big day, which comes on Wednesday, February 28.
