Braintree Council has been recognised for the quality of the district's parks and green spaces.

The council received 38 awards at this year's Essex Playing Field Awards, including ten gold awards, 15 silver and 13 certificates of merit.

Sites to receive the coveted gold standard award include Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens, Braintree, Witham Town Park, and Meadowside, Braintree.

Last year, the council received 21 awards.

Wendy Schmitt, councillor responsible for environment and place, said: “This is again another great achievement that represents the high standard and quality of our playing fields and open spaces across the district and also recognises those who work hard to protect and maintain them to benefit our communities."

Essex Playing Field Awards are run by the Essex Playing Fields Association and were held on Thursday, October 19, at Essex Police Sports and Social Club in Chelmsford
