Witham's Christmas light switch has been hailed a great success.
Crowds were entertained on Saturday by Squadron 295 Air Cadets, Big Sing and Little Sing, Templars Primary School and Funky Voices.
At 3.30pm a procession made their way from the market to the Christmas tree in the High Street, where Witham Operatic Workshop led carol singing for the gathering crowds.
Town clerk Mark Squire said: “The Dickensian Event in Newlands Centre was a great success on Saturday with some 23 market stalls.
“There were large crowds and stallholders raised significant amounts for their respective Community groups and charities.
“Many stallholders entered in to the Christmas spirit with authentic Victorian dress.
“Sidney King, this year’s town council’s youth award winner officially switched on the Christmas tree lights.
“The Carnival Queen and her court were also present.”
