DOZENS of homes in Braintree are without power after a car smashed into an electricity pole.
Residents in Cressing Road, Braintree, are suffering power cuts this morning after power lines were destroyed.
Essex Police's sergeant Colin Shead tweeted this morning that the B1018 Cressing Road is closed between Leywood Close and Beckers Green Road due to the accident.
He added the driver who knocked over some power lines fled the scene.
Sgt Shead later tweeted that the power outage had been isolated and there will need to be repairs to the pole.
A UK Power Networks spokesman said the power cut was reported to them at 4.40am and that 35 properties were affected.
The spokesman said: "There is currently a power cut in this area. Our engineers are working hard to fix it as quickly as possible. We are sorry for any trouble this may have caused."
