A FISH and chip shop is being celebrated for its gluten-free food options.

Churchill's Fish and Chips in Newland Street, Witham, has gained a place in the final of the 2016 FreeFrom Eating Out Awards, organised by FoodMatters.

In its eighth year, the FreeFrom Food Awards help to advance and acknowledge the free from food concept - food without gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soya, and other allergens.

Going into the final, Churchill’s will be competing against eight other shortlisted fish and chip shops in the category.

They will face another round of judging, which involves a site visit where they’ll be assessed on the quality of food and allergy-awareness.

Managing director James Lipscombe said: "We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Free From Award.

"Our teams have worked incredibly hard to offer our gluten intolerant customers the very best fish and chips the UK has to offer.

"We have had to innovate our processes and invest in new equipment and training to ensure we can meet the requirements of all our gluten intolerant customers.

"I am very proud of the fact that thousands of our customers who previously would not been able to enjoy our fish and chips now have the ability to do so.

"To be recognised for the hard work we have put into this is truly humbling and I thank all of the amazing teams I work with every day for providing our gluten intolerant customers with an outstanding quality gluten free portion of fish and chips."

The results will be announced on November 22 at the Food Matters live event held at the Excel.
