Trains in Braintree and Witham will benefit from part of a £4million upgrade.
Abellio Greater Anglia is to invest an additional £4 million across its network.
Forty of the Class 321 electric trains used on services in Witham and Braintree will have seats fitted with new covers.
There will be better lighting installed and these carriages will also be deep cleaned.
Abellio’s Class 317 and 321 trains will be subject to a series of modifications in a bid to increase their reliability.
New customer information screens will be installed at 35 stations, including Hatfield Peverel, Kelvedon and Witham.
The train operator has also announced a “more frequent heavy clean” programme for all trains.
