Family and friends of legendary footballer Jimmy Greaves are hoping to raise £30,000 in a month to help cover his rehabilitation treatment as he recovers from a stroke.
The former Tottenham and England striker, who lives in Little Baddow, left Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford last month and is on the “long and slow” road to recovery, his wife Irene has said.
Terry Baker, who has been Jimmy’s agent for more than 20 years, set up the fundraising campaign as a surprise to Jimmy, who is a founding shareholder of the Notleys Golf Club in Witham.
He estimated that Jimmy, whose son Danny was the former manager of Witham Town Football Club, would need 1,000 hours of treatment at £60 an hour. It is hoped that the £30,000 can be a step in the right direction.
