A super-fit "iron woman" who has just completed a seven-hour triathlon has now raised an amazing £30,000 for charity.

Sarah Withey, 45, of Maltings Lane, Witham, completed her first half ironman competition on June 14,
which saw her swim for 1.2 miles, cycle for 56 miles and run a half marathon of 13.1 miles.

The former John Bramston School pupil, who has completed nine marathons and ten half-marathons since 2005, made good time and finished the course in 7hrs and 36 minutes.

Mrs Withey has now raised around £15,000 for local charities through her challenges, which JLT, the company she works for, has matched to make £30,000.

She said: "I feel absolutely fine.

"I will definitely do it again – it’s absolutely fantastic and I’ve got a very supportive husband, who takes me cycling to Halstead and Terling."

Mrs Withey raised £2,000 for Age Concern in her first race and went on to raise similar amounts for St John’s Ambulance, the British Heart Foundation and Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, in Brentwood.

The keen horserider also ran two marathons, each in aid of the Stroke Association and Essex Air Ambulance, and raised enough cash to give £250 animal food vouchers to Marvin’s Riding Stables, in Wickham Bishops, where Mrs Withey has ridden since 1978.
