Work was due to start today on a £225,000 surface water sewerage system.
The system will service 36 homes being built off Walford Way in Coggeshall by Kier for Greenfields Community Housing.
The scheme by Anglian Water, which will take around nine weeks to complete, was due to begin today.
A section of Stoneham Street, from the junction of Robinsbridge Road to the start of Tilkey Road, will be closed from March 24 to April 11.
Anglian Water insists it will do all it can to keep disruption to a minimum.
