A village train station could be at risk of closure due to a new multi-million pound development nearby, a user group has warned.

It has been claimed that a new £45million station at Beaulieu Park, in Chelmsford, could impact upon services at nearby Hatfield Peverel station.

The new four platform station could be ready by 2019.

David Bigg, chairman of the Witham and Braintree Rail Users said: “With a new station which will have four stations and a high-density service, it is inevitable that people will go down the A12 and use the better service.

“Hatfield Peverel will have at best a skeleton service and at worse a complete closure."
