A British champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu discovered her love for the sport while looking for her next big challenge.

Jolie Boyle, 36, took up the martial art just over two years ago, after completing her black belt in kickboxing.

In May this year she became the British feather weight blue belt champion and now teaches youngsters the sport as part of the Carlson Gracie Club which is based in both Chelmsford and Colchester.

She said: “Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is addictive because it is challenging, I think it is really difficult.

“There is always something knew to learn, in kick boxing I had got to a certain stage where I had my black belt and there wasn’t really anything to learn.

“With this I am learning all the time.”

Jolie trains five times a week, upping it to six or seven sessions if she is working towards a competition.

She is one of the founding members of the Chelmsford branch of Carlson Gracie, where British champion James Costa and European champion Sam Gibson also teach.

Jolie, of Maldon Road, Hatfield Peverel, still manages to find time for her DJ work which has led her to travel all over the world.

She said: “It is a nice balance.”
