An empty community centre which is planned for demolition could re-open as a shop or office.
The Victoria Street community centre in Braintree has been earmarked for demolition to make way for a £14million retail development on the town’s bus park site.
The Braintree and Bocking Community Association was forced to vacate the centre at the end of May.
In a letter to the Times last year, the association’s executive committee said: “We had the choice of either moving to 19-21 Bocking End, or being effectively closed down by the council.”
But Braintree Council has now submitted a planning application requesting a change of use for the building.
