The opening of an art exhibition will feature a very special piece of work by a little girl to raise money for the charity which cares for her.

Ava Chaplin, 5, who attends Southview School in Witham, has severe brain damage caused by an infection and fluid on the brain when she was born, is blind, has epilepsy and cannot sit or stand by herself.

She requires 24-hour care so regularly visits Little Havens Hospice for respite breaks and has contributed a collage to the opening of the annual High Roding Art Exhibition in High Trees Barn, High Roding.

Ava’s collage, of the multi-sensory room at Little Havens, features a red sequin bubble tube, water bed and space blanket, butterflies, the starlight ceiling and some beads, one of her favourite things to hold.

Her mum, Liz Chaplin, 36, said: “It's probably her favourite place to be whilst staying at the hospice. For a child who is blind like Ava, there is no better place to be."

All money raised at the opening held at 7pm on Friday September 13, will be donated to Little Havens Hospice and the exhibition will then be open daily between 10am to 4pm until Sunday September 22.
