The district’s top policeman has stepped aside from his role in pursuit of new challenges within the force.
Braintree district commander, Chief Inspector Nick Lee, is standing down from the role he has held since January 2010.
His replacement is Chief Inspector Richard Melton, who started his new role at Braintree police station on Monday.
Mr Lee said: “I have decided to move on because, like lots of things, it is important to keep moving to develop your career.
“The job I am moving onto offers new opportunities. I have been here in Braintree district for three-and-a-half years and I have massively enjoyed that period.
“It has been an honour to be in charge of the area myself and my family live in - it has been one of the highlights of my career."
