All-rounder Mike McClean is the main attraction as the Comedy Club comes to Witham this weekend.

Mike, who originally trained as an actor, started his entertainment career in comedy, but rose to prominence as a television personality.

While touring his comedy magic act, he was spotted by a TV producer from children’s channel Nickelodeon, which gave him his first break on the small screen.

From there, he became the roving reporter on Channel 4’s cult show The Big Breakfast, interviewing celebrities such as Brad Pitt and Britney Spears.

In recent years, Mike has returned to his acting roots, playing Father Tony in comedy-drama series Shameless.

Joining Mike on the line-up this week is self-styled rock ‘n’ roll poet Paul B Edwards, whose set combines jokes, songs and poetry.

Proceedings will be hosted by former Club Mirror comedian of the year Kevin McCarthy.

The Comedy Club returns to Witham Public Hall, in Collingwood Road, on Saturday.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 9pm. Tickets are £12.50 in advance or £15 on the door.
