Essex County Council (ECC) has selected seven sites in Braintree and Witham for sand and gravel extraction, including a 90 hectare site at Broadfield Farm, Rayne, and a 46 hectare plot at Colemans Farm in Little Braxted.

Braintree Council’s local development framework sub-committee have opposed both sites.

They have also objected to three out of five proposed extensions to Bradwell Quarry in Rivenhall.

Braintree Council is due to discuss the sub-committee’s recommendations at its next meeting.

Members of the public can still view ECC’s proposals and comment before February 28.
