THE BOROUGH OF SOUTHEND-ON-SEA (GREENWAYS AND NORTH STREET) (PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE) EXPERIMENTAL ORDER 2020
Notice is hereby given that the Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, on the 12th November 2020, acting as the local highway authority, made an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order under Section 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 ("the Act"), and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act, the effect of which be as follows:
a) Introduce pedestrian and cycle only zones in the following locations
- North Street, Leigh-on-Sea - from it's junction with East Street to its junction with West Street.
- Greenways - from its junction with Wyatts Drive to its junction with Lifstan Way.
b) The zones will operate
- North Street Term time only - Monday to Friday between 8:30am - 9:30am and 2:30pm - 3:30pm.
- Greenways Term time only - Monday to Friday between 8:15am - 9:15am and 2:30pm - 3:30pm.
c) Residents will be able to apply for permits exempting them from the restrictions.
The Experimental Order shall come into operation on 19th November 2020 and shall remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months during which time the Council will monitor the scheme and consider representations made to it before deciding whether or not to introduce a permanent scheme. Within a period of six months from the Experimental Order coming into force, or if that order is subsequently varied by another order under that Section or modified pursuant to sub-section 2 of Section 10 of the Act, from the coming into operation of that variation or modification (whichever is the latest), any person may object to the making of the order permanent. Objections to the provisions of this Experimental Order being made permanent, together with the grounds on which they are made, must be sent in writing to Executive Director (Neighbourhoods & Environment) and marked for the attention of the Traffic Management & Road Safety Team at the address below by no later than 19th May 2021. All written representations received concerning Traffic Regulation Orders are public documents that may be inspected by any person on demand.
