Youth Football Round-up

Blackwater and Dengie League (Northey) - Under 8s North Fambridge Flyers 0 Torquespeed Lightening 4

In the last match of what can be considered a successful season for Lightening, the team were seeking just a point to move them up two places in the league table.

It was fairly even early on in the game with the Fambridge forwards posing a threat, although these passed without incident and Lightening were soon able to find their feet. As the match progressed, Lightening gained more and more possession with Lewis Cookson and Jared Glasson dominating the midfield area, and they were rewarded soon after with Joshua Colman slotting home Lightening's first from inside the box. Lightening continued to press forward to win numerous corner kicks, and it was from a cross by Korley Wraight that found Thomas Rowland at the far post who fired the ball into the roof of the net for a 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Lightening probably pushing too far forward looking for further goals to add to their tally and this left them exposed at the back, however defender Ashley Hickford had strong legs to chase back and avert any danger from an attacking Fambridge. Lightening continued to win many 50-50 balls in midfield as Thomas Humberstone put in some good tackles and this helped set up Luke Judge to score Lightening's third part way through the half with some great skill to beat two players and place a well timed shot through the keeper's legs. Korley Wraight then added a fourth goal for Lightening. A long range attempt on goal by Joshua Coleman was parried by the Fambridge keeper and Korley ran some distance to score a real poacher's goal, pouncing onto the keeper's mistake to shoot into the back of the net.

Even towards the end of the game, Fambridge still posed a threat, and with Lightening's defence still pushed forward, they became exposed at the back yet again. This time, the forwards run at goal was thwarted by the new keeper, Joshua Coleman, who came off his line to save brilliantly with his legs.

Thaxted Rangers 3-1 Tiptree Minors under 11s

This was to be the most high pressure game of the season so far as the winners would also win the league. Despite the blistering heat both teams started well but it was Thaxted who scored first. Tiptree didn't let this deter them and showed the same admirable team spirit that they have had all season. This was soon rewarded when Jamie Peachey took a superb corner which Matt Allum headed into the crossbar only to be blasted in on the rebound by Tom Bellotti. Tiptree carried on to play at the same high standard, but it was Thaxted who scored again just before half time. Tiptree came out for the second half raring to go. Thaxted scored their third and still Tiptree refused to let their heads drop, they dug in and fought to the whistle. Although the result wasn't quite what they wanted the team spirit and overall performance can only be applauded. The excitement is not quite over as these two teams meet again next week for the league cup final.

Already league winners Saints went into the game against White Notley like it was still a cup final.

Goals scored by Rayner, Harris and Foster gave saints a comfortable 4-0 win.

We will be looking for new players especially a goalkeeper to go into Div 1 next season so if anyone would like to try out, contact Bryan Trigg on 07958 767804.

Blackwater and Dengie League Cup Final Division 1 Under 15s Chelmer Wanderers 1-2 Mayland Village Cobras

Yet another spectacular winning performance by the Cobras (above), a goal before half time from Tom Poole rattling Chelmer's defence. Both teams came out with a passion to win. Changes from the Cobras bench bringing on Jack Jones and Ryan Downey. Chelmer determined score an equaliser and a tense crowd had to wait until the last 20 minutes before the deadlock was broken with a superb header from Sam Winney sealing another cup final win.

Blackwater and Dengie League Division 1 U15s Mayland Village Cobras 3-1 Chelmer Wanderers

A great end to the season for Mayland Village Cobras, a tense game, two penalties taken and scored by Tom Poole and a further superb goal by Adam Belham sealed the game and the league for the Cobras, unbeaten this season.
