Ladies clinch third successive promotion

Braintree Town Ladies have continued their meteoric rise by clinching the Essex County Women's League division one title.

Having won the division two and division three titles in successive years, the Iron enjoyed more success to secure promotion to the Women's Eastern Region League for next season.

They went into their final league game of the season at Saffron Walden knowing that any win would be good enough to earn them the title.

Saffron Walden were in third position and were expected to provide stiff opposition.

However Iron were 3-0 up at half-time through Ella Tooley, Clare Dickinson and Lynsey Bowman.

The goals continued to flow during the second half, first through an own goal and then from two strikes from top-scorer Paula Drane and another from Tooley.

David Streetley's side have won all but one of their games in clinching three successive promotions.

Braintree will be hoping for more success on May 18.

They take on Ipswich Town Reserves in the League Cup Final at Maldon Town Football Club, kick-off 6pm.
