Play-off disappointment for Iron
Braintree Town will play in Blue Square South again next season after they suffered play-off disappointment for the second successive season.
Having trailed 2-0 from the first leg, the Iron were beaten 3-0 by Eastbourne Borough to lose their semi-final 5-0 on aggregate.
Eastbourne will now play Hampton and Richmond in Thursday's final, at Stevenage Borough.
Lee Patterson's side were without a host of key players because of injuries and suspension.
However, they gave it their all and were still in with a chance until Eastbourne scored a third goal in the tie just before half-time.
Nevertheless, boss Patterson was proud of his side's efforts throughout the season, having taking over in October with the side in relegation trouble. He said: "I think it caught up with us in the end.
"The fans have been absolutely fantastic since I've been here and they deserve better.
disappointed
"We're extremely disappointed but the players have been absolutely magnificent for me.
"The first goal effectively killed the game and Chris Smith and Eugene Ofori both had chances at 0-0.
"But the second goal at home was the important one for them and they always had a cushion.
"I don't think we were outplayed though and we've had some chances over the two games.
"But they've taken their chances and we haven't."
Braintree had the better of the first half with both Ofori and Chris Sullivan both having opportunities.
But despite the Iron's possession, Allan Tait finally broke the deadlock four minutes before the interval, after capitalising on Darren Budd's pass.
Louis Riddle was sent on at half-time as Braintree threw players forward.
And Riddle went close to levelling matters on the day with 13 minutes left after bursting through on goal.
But as Braintree pushed forward, Eastbourne added two late goals to complete a 5-0 aggregate win.
