Opening win for Bardfield
After their first league game was rained off, Little Bardfield opened their PDQ Cars North Essex League division three season with a home fixture against Real Oddies.
Batting first, Bardfield amassed a total of 192 for nine.
Opener Mark Welby top-scored with 81, supported by Will Slemmings.
Slemmings returned from his four-month Australia trip less than 48 hours earlier.
He managed to stave off jet lag long enough to score 30 runs.
After tea Real Oddies went into bat but were knocked over for a total of 95 giving Little Bardfield a winning margin of 97 runs.
Joe Owen topped the bowling figures with three for 15, with Dean Bass scoring two for one and Tom Graham two for 19.
Meanwhile, Bardfield warmed up for this weekend's Two Counties division four curtain-raiser with a comprehensive performance in a friendly against Twinstead.
Bardfield made 292 for three, with Bass making 120 and Dave Taylor (50), Owen (53 not out) all making huge contributions. Twinstead never seem to take control of Bardfield's tight bowling in reply and were bowled out for a lowly 83.
The pick of the Bardfield bowlers was Graham, who in his five overs claimed five maidens and a wicket.
Peter Bray claimed three for 21.
Little Bardfield played host to Real Oddies in PDQ Cars League division three.
Welby hit 81, as Bardfield ended their innings on 192.
And a star bowling performance from Owen see him pick up figures of three for 15, as Bardfield won by 97 runs.
