New names on trophies
The Braintree Badminton League individual tournament finals took place at the Earls Colne R.C.
And at the completion of the five finals, there will be three new names on the trophies for this season.
After several unsuccessful attempts Louise Murphy (-2) lbc took the ladies singles title beating last year's runners up Gina smith (0) Braintree Nomads 21.13 21-9.
In the men's doubles final, Wilf Janssen/Ross Ranson (-6) E Colne/LBC took on the young Bishop's Stortford pair of Tim Woods/Mark Whitworth (-2) who completely outplayed their more experienced opponents, winning 21-13, 21-11.
The men's singles final produced another first-time winner in Adrian Beckett (0) LBC, who took on Ross Ranson (-4) LBC, who was competing in his fifth consecutive singles final. Ranson won the first set 21-15 but Beckett took the next two 21-20, 21-15 as Ranson ran out of steam in what was his third final of the evening.
The mixed doubles final was an all LBC affair with Nicola Hutcins and Melvin Hutton (0) beating Theres Hutton/Ross Ranson (-4) 21-15, 21-17. Carol Salmon/Jan Trevllion (-4) Haverhill won the ladies doubles final beating Gina Smith/Melissa Richardson (-2), Braintree Nomads, 21-18, 14-21, 21-19.
The tournament was again organised by Therese Hutton and the trophies were presented by Felsted BC's Michelle Clarke.
The annual meeting will be held on Thursday, May 8, 8pm at The Alec Hunter School Library.
