McDonald scoops Witham award

Witham Town chairman Tony Last is confident star man Cody McDonald will still be at the club next season.

However, he has reiterated that the club will not stand in his way should he wish to progress.

McDonald scooped Town's Players' Player of the Year award at the club's presentation evening last weekend, having enjoyed a superb campaign in Ryman League division one north.

He collected the highest number of man-of-the-match awards this season for Witham.

Last is bracing himself for interest in the youngster.

However, he has urged McDonald not to make a sideways move, should he eventually decide to progress to pastures new.

Last said: "Cody has been fantastic for us all season.

"He got pretty much 100 per cent of the vote from his team-mates for the Player of the Year award."

Meanwhile, Last has praised Joe Smith, who collected the Manager's Player of the Year award.

The midfielder was signed from Hatfield Peverel by former boss Ken O'Donnell and has impressed caretaker boss Last and assistant boss Paul Daley.

"His performances, attitude and dedication have been fantastic," added Last.
